Jude is heavy. It’s about judgement + contending for the faith. But it ends with this moment of worship: He is able to keep us from stumbling. And He brings us faultless, joyful even, into His presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFriend, in whatever you’re facing today, let that comfort sink deep into your soul. He is able to keep you. Able to clean you, save you. If you feel your mind and heart in an overwhelming spiral, let this be hope that splices through the chaos and anchors your soul. Therapy, supplements, letters, healing. And a friendship I’d developed in the hospital continued to grow: the man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, was sharing in my suffering. Jesus, my shepherd. It had been a long, brutal journey through the valley of the shadow of death, but He had brought me through it. On this side, it has opened up to hope + light + freedom. When I was a kid, my mom had my siblings and I memorize this whole chapter. At the time, it seemed eternally long and irrelevant, but through my adult life it’s surfaced again and again, various truths shining wisdom and hope in the middle of hard seasons. It was the chapter that settled my heart through Covid, extreme political divide, and church planting, cutting through all the noise to lay peace and calm everything else: “He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eScripture memory is an investment into our spiritual bank accounts. We don’t always see immediate benefit; sometimes we put in the hard work, adding to it through the years and watching it grow. But when a crisis hits, or when we feel empty inside, we don’t need to look for quick-fix solutions. We don’t have to go into spiritual debt by asking someone else— social media, or the news, or the approval of others—to cover the void. Instead, we can look with confidence and security to the truths that have been growing inside. I chewed on it, swallowed it into heart + mind, digested it into soul-medicine, and knew it as my savior. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen news of brain damage crushed me: He has borne this grief. When her 6th spinal tap failed: He has carried this sorrow. When her PICC line broke: He has borne this grief. When Junie screamed for mama to come home: He has carried this sorrow. But when I opened it in my Bible, I fixated on a line I’d never paid attention to before: the Lord would carry us as a man carries his son. Immediate tears dropped on the page as a specific photograph came to mind: my husband, Dan, holding my son, Cassius, when he was a year old, Dan's strength + size + character providing every ounce of assurance Cassius could need. How was God going to fight for us? How was He going to carry me through this tragedy? As a man carries his son. As Dan would carry Cassius: with tenderness engulfed in strength, with arms that are everlasting, with a firm grip on heart + mind when both threaten to cave.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Lord fought for me, yes, as a warrior, but moreso, as a father.
